Wabi Sabi @ Rio Vista

A young man in a white t-shirt and black shorts is standing in a living room, reaching to touch a potted plant. The room has a beige sofa with pillows, a built-in wall shelf displaying toys, models, and decor, and houseplants along the wall.

A home where natural textures, earthy tones, and thoughtful design create a warm, simple, and harmonious living space.

This project brings together the essence of Wabi-Sabi, blending natural textures, earthy tones, and functional design. To create a warm and inviting atmosphere, we applied a light cream soft limewash paint in the living room, pairing it with walnut wood laminate for a rustic yet refined aesthetic.

For the kitchen, we opted for a darker tone, using grey limewash paint on both the walls and ceiling. This provides a distinct separation from the living space while ensuring a seamless transition into the dining area.

A key design element is the custom display partition wall, crafted to showcase the owners’ cherished collection while integrating a planter feature to bring nature indoors. At the foyer, we reimagined the layout by hacking down the wall between the kitchen and entryway, replacing it with a shoe cabinet divider. This not only maximizes storage but also incorporates a small diagonal opening, allowing the owners to see who enters the home.

With several standout features in the living space, we kept the dining and TV areas spacious and uncluttered, ensuring a balanced, airy environment that embodies the beauty of imperfection and simplicity.
